Frequently asked questions
What counts as an active host?
A host is active if its agent has checked in within your stale-host threshold (default: 30 days). Hosts that stop reporting beyond the threshold are excluded from your billable count automatically. You can adjust the threshold per account.
Is there a minimum host count?
No. You pay for exactly the number of hosts you run. Add or remove hosts at any time and your bill scales with your actual usage at the per-host rate for your tier and currency.
Can I switch tiers mid-cycle?
Yes. Upgrades are prorated and invoiced immediately so you get access to the new tier straight away. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period so you don't lose paid time you've already committed to.
Can I switch currency after signup?
Currency is locked at signup because Stripe does not allow switching currencies on an existing subscription. If you need to change currency, cancel your subscription and resubscribe in the new currency. In practice this is rare.
Is there a free version?
Yes. PatchMon Community Edition is free forever under AGPLv3. You self-host it on your own infrastructure managed by yourself. If you require PRO management services for your on-premises deployment, please contact us for support, training, and deployment.
Is there a minimum commitment?
No. All Cloud plans are month-to-month. Cancel any time in the Customer Portal and you will not be billed for the next period. Annual plans run for a year at a discounted rate (2 months free) and renew annually.
Do you offer annual billing?
Yes. Annual billing is priced at 10 months of the monthly rate (2 months free, roughly 17% off). You can switch between monthly and annual when you change tier or by contacting support.
What is the free trial like?
Every Cloud trial runs for 14 days with the full Plus feature set. A card is required at signup to set up the Stripe subscription, but you are not charged until the trial ends. Cancel any time before day 14 and you will not be billed.
What platforms and package managers are supported?
Linux (APT, DNF/YUM, APK, Pacman), FreeBSD (pkg), and Windows (Windows Update). Agents are built for amd64, i386, arm64, and arm.
How does Community compare to Cloud?
Community Edition is AGPLv3 software you self-host and operate yourself: you run the server, handle updates, apply backups, and monitor uptime. PatchMon Cloud is a managed service with regional isolation, automatic updates, backups, and tiered support so you are not on call for the control plane. For on-premises Community, PRO covers architecture, training, priority support, and deployment help. Contact us to scope that work.
Do you charge VAT?
Not today. PatchMon Ltd is a UK limited company and is not currently VAT registered, so no VAT is added on any invoice. All listed prices are what you pay. Once we cross the UK VAT registration threshold we will register for VAT and for EU VAT OSS, at which point UK and EU customers will see VAT added at checkout under standard rules. UK VAT-registered businesses reclaim as usual. US and non-EU customers are unaffected.
